Hello.
Thanks for stopping by. Some of
you might know me from days long ago and some of you might be
thinking, “Who in the world is this guy”? Well my name is Newton and
I used to be the mascot for Bateman School. No one really remembers
how I got the position as mascot and even I have forgotten since
it’s been such a long time. All I know is that I was once a very
happy fuzzy guy with big feet who represented our great school.
Then the 1990’s came along and
everyone thought that I was too old and boring to handle the job. So
they hired some other guy – a raccoon of all things – to take my
place. At first everyone thought he was cute. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I
didn’t think he was so cool wearing that striped shirt and waving
his hand at everyone. At least he had hands. I only had a big nose
and feet. Retirement was getting quite lonely. I wasn’t happy
standing around doing much of nothing.
Then a couple of years ago,
people started talking about the raccoon. They thought he wasn’t
tough enough to be the mascot. Rival sports teams from other schools
sure didn’t think "Mr. Friendly Raccoon" was all that fearsome. So
the big guys at Bateman decided that it was time to move on. The
raccoon was sent off to join me in retirement – you know, the place
where all of us old mascots go to sit around and talk about the days
gone by.
Now the new guy, as we like to
call him, is in charge at Bateman. He’s a young dragon named Blaze,
just starting out in his career as school mascot. Those of us in
retirement even have to admit that he’s kind of cool. The people
over at Bateman think he’s got a lot of potential.
As for the raccoon and I, we’re
enjoying our free time now at the Mascot Retirement Village. We
appreciate you stopping in to say hello and wish Blaze the best.
After all, we don’t want to get on his bad side. His fire breath
wouldn’t work well with my hair and the raccoon’s fur.
Sincerely,
Newton (and the Raccoon)
